About the position

The Physician Assistant position at Penn State Health's Heart and Vascular Institute Critical Care Unit (HVICCU) involves providing critical care management for patients undergoing cardiac and vascular surgeries. The role requires collaboration with intensivists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care in a 30-bed unit, operating 24/7. Responsibilities include direct patient management, performing critical procedures, and participating in daily patient rounds.

Responsibilities

  • Manage critical care patients in the HVICCU, including those with complex therapies such as IABP, Impella, VADs, ECMO, CRRT, and respiratory ventilators.
  • Participate in daily rounds and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to revise medical management plans.
  • Perform procedures including placement of A-line, central line, Swan Ganz catheter, removal of IABP, chest tubes, and cardiac pacer wires.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or a baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment.
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
