About the position

The Physician Assistant (PA) at AdventHealth plays a crucial role in supporting clinical operations, focusing on both inpatient and outpatient services. This position involves comprehensive patient care, including pre-operative evaluations, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative management. The PA collaborates closely with faculty surgeons and physicians to ensure integrated and effective patient care, while also participating in educational and mentoring activities within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily inpatient rounding by taking patient history, conducting physical exams, and reviewing laboratory and diagnostic data.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation and perform procedures as appropriate.
  • Contribute to daily multidisciplinary rounds with a specific surgical perspective.
  • Mentor and educate other team members actively.
  • Perform inpatient consultations and admissions under the direction of the collaborating physician.
  • Document all patient encounters through computerized progress notes and other required documentation.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic, and surgical concerns.
  • Order and interpret relevant laboratory and radiologic tests.
  • Develop treatment plans and address the pharmacologic needs of patients.
  • Perform pre-operative patient evaluations and medical optimization.
  • Manage post-operative patients in ICU and on the floor.
  • Coordinate information flow among medical, nursing, and financial personnel.
  • Facilitate BLS/ACLS measures as necessary.
  • Provide patient education and counseling regarding health status and discharge planning.
  • Assess clinical factors and coordinate care for transplant patients.
  • Perform first and second surgical assist duties in the OR setting.
  • Participate in clinical research and regulatory-related data collection.
  • Attend transplant team meetings and communicate effectively with the team.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Minimum of two years post-graduation clinical experience or one year of post-graduate surgical residency training experience.
  • Minimum of one year of cardiothoracic specialty specific experience.
  • Pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative surgical patient care experience.
  • Critical care experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • Physician Assistant State of Florida license.
  • National Commission Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching/preceptor experience.
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery Certificate of Added Qualification (CTS CAQ).
  • Fellow of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiovascular Surgery (FAPACVS).
  • Cardiac Surgical Unit Advanced Life Support Certification (CSU ALS).
  • Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) by the American Board of Transplant Certification (ABTC).
