Full-time
Remote - Boston, MA
Ambulatory Health Care Services

About the position

The Brigham and Women's Primary Care Physician Assistant I is an integral member of the Primary Care team, primarily responsible for the assessment and management of diverse patient populations, both medical and surgical. This role involves diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, the development of appropriate care plans, and ongoing evaluation of patient progress. The Physician Assistant (PA) will operate in a remote capacity, focusing on managing Primary Care tasks curated within their inbasket folders. Initially, the PA will be required to be on-site for the first few weeks of employment, after which the position will transition to a fully remote setup. The specifics of the work will evolve over time as the initiative rolls out, adapting to the changing needs of the department. In this role, the PA will handle a range of telephone encounters and messages, which can vary from routine to emergent. This will necessitate thorough patient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The PA will be tasked with resolving Patient Gateway messages in real-time, either by providing clinical advice or facilitating virtual visits. Additionally, the PA will place orders for tests, vaccines, referrals, or medication refills, adhering to established protocols, excluding controlled substances. Following up on these orders is also a critical responsibility. Effective communication with primary care providers (PCPs), nurses, medical assistants, administrative support, and practice leadership is essential to ensure seamless patient care. The PA must be fluent in Spanish and possess experience working with pediatric patients. While the PA can expect a relatively predictable work schedule, there may be variations to accommodate clinical needs as they arise. Occasionally, the PA may be required to provide clinical coverage for team members. After hours, the PA must remain accessible for urgent test results related to their orders and is expected to regularly check their Epic inbasket, responding to time-sensitive information as necessary, even outside of office hours. The PA will also perform other duties as assigned and must comply with all relevant policies and standards.
