About the position

The Physician Assistant will manage and coordinate overnight care in the ICU for Cardiac Thoracic post-surgery patients, working from 7 PM to 7 AM on a 7 on, 7 off schedule. This role requires the ability to handle high-acuity patients, prioritize care, and maintain effective communication with the healthcare team. The position involves working in an inpatient critical care area that provides mechanical circulatory support, necessitating proficiency in various critical care procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate overnight care in the ICU for Cardiac Thoracic post-surgery patients.
  • Prioritize patient care based on individual needs.
  • Maintain open communication with all staff members.
  • Model a collaborative and professional relationship with the healthcare team.
  • Perform critical care procedures such as Chest Tube Placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Central Line placement and management, A-lines, Swans, IABP management, CRRT management, and Ventilator management.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or a baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment.
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment.
  • Minimum two (2) years in Critical Care managing Cardiac Surgery patients.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • ICU critical care experience
  • Two (2) years experience as a physician assistant.
