About The Position

Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant provides high quality, efficient, team based patient focused care. The Physician Assistant's responsibilities may include managing patients in the office, hospital, ED and/or perioperative setting. The Physician Assistant may be required to First Assist in the OR or perform other department specific procedures. The Physician Assistant may also facilitate on call responsibilities for his/her supervising physician. The Physician Assistant's daily responsibilities may vary based upon the department & supervising physician needs and may require evening or weekend work hours.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed Physician Assistant with relevant certifications.
  • Experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a surgical or hospital environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and under the direction of a supervising physician.
  • Strong communication skills to instruct and counsel patients effectively.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations and interpret diagnostic tests.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a specific specialty relevant to the department.
  • CRT Fluoroscopy license (to be obtained within 18 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Practice as part of a team under the direction of their supervising physician.
  • Examine patients and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as imaging studies, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests, and interpret test results for deviations from normal.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and managing infection.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in provision of continuity of care.
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Facilitate admissions, transfers, discharges as applicable.
  • First assist in surgeries or perform procedures as applicable.
  • Round on inpatients as needed.
  • Perform admission evaluations on patients, including obtaining basic medical information and history, reviewing patients' medical records, performing physical exams, documenting findings, and reporting deviations from normal findings to attending physician.
  • Provide patient and family with pre-operative/pre-procedure and other pertinent education.
  • Answer questions regarding surgery or procedures, recovery, and risk factor modification; provide blood transfusion information as applicable; perform peri-operative procedures; locate and utilize diagnostic images, instruments, and pertinent patient information.
  • Review patient charts noting allergies, pertinent medical history, and abnormal physical findings.
  • Assist in performing surgical procedures and other procedures consistent with the standards of care and practice guidelines.
  • Perform post-operative procedures including entering standard post-operative orders into patient medical records; assist physicians with evaluation and management of patients' status during recovery; review vital signs, laboratory and diagnostic studies; assist with management of patients.
  • Facilitate patient discharge; dictate discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner.
