About the position

The Department of Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our inpatient team. This position is crucial for coordinating follow-up care and discharge planning for patients admitted to our facility. The PA will work from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care during their hospital stay. The salary for this role ranges from $110,598 to $130,000, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications. As a credentialed position, the PA will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients, which includes ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, and therapeutic interventions. The PA will also be accountable for the daily implementation and evaluation of appropriate care plans. This role is designed to augment the physician's ability to provide medical services, allowing for a more efficient and effective healthcare delivery system. The PA will apply their knowledge of various medical disciplines, including anatomy, neurology, microbiology, and pharmacology, to provide high-quality care in an inpatient setting. Responsibilities will include conducting patient assessments, completing physical examinations, collecting clinical data, and administering medications or treatments. The PA will also perform minor surgical procedures and coordinate care for patients admitted to various services, including Trauma, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, and Ob/Gyn. In addition to direct patient care, the PA will be responsible for accurate patient coding for billing purposes, maintaining detailed medical reports, and managing the inventory of medical supplies. The PA will serve as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts, ensuring a smooth flow of patient processing, treatment, and discharge, including triaging patients as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments and complete physical examinations.
  • Collect clinical data including vital signs and specimens.
  • Prepare patients for tests, therapy, or treatments.
  • Order and interpret medical laboratory test results.
  • Diagnose medical conditions of patients.
  • Administer medications or treatments and perform minor surgery.
  • Rounds and coordinates care for inpatient consult service patients.
  • Complete accurate patient coding for effective billing.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical reports.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and instruments.
  • Serve as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts.

Requirements

  • Credentialed Physician Assistant (PA) with appropriate medical licensure.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, and pharmacology.
  • Ability to conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Experience in patient assessment and management in an inpatient setting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a neurosurgery or surgical setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
