About the position

The Specialty Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This position involves managing a distinct patient population, performing assessments, diagnosing conditions, formulating care plans, and ensuring adherence to clinical protocols. The NP is responsible for both outpatient and inpatient care coordination, demonstrating advanced medical and nursing knowledge, and maintaining professional development. This role is essential in advancing health and wellness through evidence-based practices and quality care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document complete history and physical examinations for acute and complex chronically ill patients.
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
  • Serve as the first responder for patient status changes and in situations requiring procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • Assess risks associated with care for acute and complex chronically ill patients.
  • Coordinate daily clinic schedules with the attending physician team and present patient reports.
  • Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and manage complications with appropriate interventions.
  • Identify expected outcomes from diagnoses and document a plan of care for complex health needs.
  • Implement and modify plans of care based on evidence-based guidelines.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Document key components of patient progress in medical records in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate professional practice behaviors including mentoring and education of students and staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Tennessee
  • One year of Advanced Practice Provider experience
  • Strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education
  • Advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge
  • Clinical and technical competence
  • Professional communication skills
  • Timely and compliant documentation skills
