About the position

This position contributes to the Hospital's mission by assisting specialist physicians in the coordination and delivery of high quality, safe patient care. The role involves providing care for inpatients under the supervision of physicians and collaborating with the healthcare team, including patients and their families, to achieve expected outcomes. As a credentialed member of the Hospital's medical and allied healthcare staff, the individual in this role is recognized as an independent licensed professional. In the Obstetrics department, the position takes direction from and provides assistance to Obstetricians in caring for obstetrics patients and delivering babies. Responsibilities include performing obstetrics-related procedures, such as episiotomies, while maintaining competency and proficiency in Clinical Practice Networks (CPN). In Surgical Services, the role involves assisting surgeons in providing perioperative care and performing surgical-related procedures, including drain removal, while ensuring competency and proficiency in Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist specialist physicians in the coordination and delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Provide care for inpatients under the supervision of physicians.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including patients and their families, to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Assist Obstetricians in the care of obstetrics patients and the delivery of babies.
  • Perform obstetrics-related procedures, including episiotomies.
  • Maintain competency and proficiency in Clinical Practice Networks (CPN).
  • Assist surgeons in providing perioperative care in Surgical Services.
  • Perform surgical-related procedures, including drain removal.
  • Maintain competency and proficiency in Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE).

Requirements

  • Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)-approved program.
  • Clinical experience in Labor and Delivery, with life support requirements: BLS and NRP.
  • Ability to first assist in the operating room.
  • Ability to perform procedures at the bedside.
  • Ability to assist with patient management in the designated specialty in collaboration with other healthcare providers.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters of Science of Physician Assistant Studies with a focus in specialty.
  • At least 6 months clinical experience in specialty Obstetrics.
  • Experience with labor and vaginal delivery, post-partum, cervical ripening agents, and fetal heart monitoring.
  • Experience with central venous access, chest tube placement and management, and managing general and vascular surgical patients.
