About the position

The Physician Assistant (PA) plays a crucial role in providing medical consultation, routine patient care, and follow-up as directed by the supervising physician. This position involves assisting physicians with procedures and acting as a liaison between the physician and the patient, ensuring adherence to National Patient Safety Goals based on the level of patient contact required.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and completes a detailed patient assessment.
  • Diagnoses actual or potential health problems based on data analysis and plans therapeutic interventions.
  • Orders and initiates appropriate laboratory tests, medications, treatments, and consultations based on data analysis.
  • Orders or performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing (not involving tendons, arteries, or nerves), wound care, and blood draws.
  • Educates patients regarding prescribed treatments and medications.
  • Maintains timely documentation of the patient's medical record.
  • Makes rounds as requested by physician(s) and completes patient discharge summaries as requested.
  • Ensures all necessary patient tests have been completed prior to surgery (specific to ISMC Neurosurgical).
  • Assists physician(s) in surgery, including wound closure and post-op orders (specific to ISMC Neurosurgical).
  • Provides wound care and infection management.
  • Assists in triage and initiates radiographic and laboratory studies for patients in the Metro ER.
  • Examines, treats, and makes disposition on patients in triage under direct physician supervision (specific to Metro ER).
  • Responsible for patient assessment following therapeutic holds per state and federal regulations (specific to Mental Health).

Requirements

  • Requires a degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • 1 year of experience in a surgery setting preferred (specific to ISMC Neurosurgical).
  • 1 year of experience in a comprehensive emergency department setting preferred (specific to Emergency Department).
  • Current ACLS certification if working with adults in acute care environments (specific to NZTI).
  • Current PALS certification if working with children in acute care environments (specific to NZTI).
