About the position

The Physician Assistant (PA) Primary Care role at Baylor Scott & White Health involves providing direct patient care in a primary care setting. The PA is responsible for assessing patients, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing treatments, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care. This position requires a licensed and certified healthcare provider who can operate independently within the scope of practice defined by the supervising physician.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients through comprehensive examinations and medical histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient health needs.
  • Prescribe and recommend medical therapies and perform procedures in accordance with protocols.
  • Formulate and implement patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine.
  • Evaluate patient responses to healthcare provided and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsel patients and families on medical processes, health management, and nutrition.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Provide consultation services for conditions related to the provider's specialty.
  • Perform invasive procedures as delegated by the supervising physician.
  • Manage a panel of patients focusing on acute and chronic illness.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a relevant healthcare setting.

  • Knowledge of practices for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
