The Physician Assistant (PA) in Primary Care is a licensed healthcare provider responsible for delivering direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various health conditions. This role involves working under the supervision of a physician and includes responsibilities such as prescribing medications, performing diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans. The PA plays a crucial role in managing both acute and chronic illnesses in a team-based healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Assess the physical and mental condition of patients through comprehensive examinations and medical histories.
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient health needs.
- Prescribe and recommend medical therapies and perform procedures in accordance with approved protocols.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive treatment plans based on patient assessments and evidence-based medicine.
- Evaluate patient responses to healthcare provided and the effectiveness of care.
- Counsel patients and families on medical processes, health management, and nutrition.
- Maintain detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes.
- Initiate timely consultations and referrals when necessary.
- Perform invasive procedures as delegated by the supervising physician.
- Provide consultation services for conditions related to the provider's specialty.
Requirements
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- 1 year of experience in a relevant healthcare setting.
