About the position

We are searching for a Physician Assistant to join our team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in Austin. This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is capable of working collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team, including attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellows. The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. The role involves practicing under established clinical protocols, where the PA will assume both independent and interdependent responsibilities in assessing, diagnosing, and initiating treatment and procedures for patients. New employees will complete their orientation and training in Houston before the Austin hospital opens. The Physician Assistant will utilize advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data while managing a caseload of patients. Responsibilities include administering medications as delegated by the authorizing physician, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and demonstrating effective communication skills to eliminate barriers. The PA will provide a full spectrum of healthcare services, including health promotion, disease prevention, anticipatory guidance, counseling, and disease management. Additionally, the PA will serve as an educational resource for patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, applying new knowledge relevant to population-specific clinical practice and participating in departmental quality improvement programs annually.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • PA - Cert-Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board required.
  • Experience in the PICU or CVICU preferred.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster doses recommended by the CDC, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
