About the position

The Physician Assistant (PA) in Primary Care at the Veterans Health Administration is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to veterans. This role involves performing physical examinations, diagnosing medical conditions, prescribing treatments, and educating patients about their health. The PA works under the supervision of the Clinic Medical Director and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care in a Whole Health System of care.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory and imaging tests.
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments as per licensure.
• Document patient interactions and procedures in electronic medical records.
• Participate in peer review and quality improvement processes.
• Educate and counsel veterans and their families on health maintenance and illness prevention.
• Engage in systematic evaluation of patient care quality and effectiveness.
• Act as a surrogate for colleagues' patients when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

Requirements

• Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant.
• Successful completion of the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) or in the process of taking the exam.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the U.S.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
