About the position

The Skills and Simulation Operations Coordinator is a full-time Principal Faculty member in the Physician Assistant Program at South University. This role is primarily responsible for the coordination and operation of skills and simulation within the curriculum, focusing on clinical procedures, technical skills evaluations, and the overall improvement of participant outcomes. The position involves course design, delivery, and evaluation, ensuring that students meet the program's learning outcomes and adhere to accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing, running scenarios, and debriefing with instructors, facilitators, and students.
  • Coordinate all clinical procedural training skills sessions/laboratories/OSCEs.
  • Utilize a variety of resources including anatomic models, task trainers, and high-fidelity simulators.
  • Contribute to the creation of realistic learning environments using various tools and techniques.
  • Organize and design instructional materials to support teaching delivery and assessment for each simulation/laboratory session.
  • Ensure each session includes appropriate goals, objectives, case scenarios, and assessments.
  • Create, manage, and organize various courses/scenarios/evaluations/data for education and assessments.
  • Review and report educational outcomes for simulation and clinical procedural activities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the Department Chair in developing policies and procedures related to curriculum and assessment.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in programming knowledge of simulation technology.
  • Provide faculty development sessions related to simulation and clinical procedural education.
  • Create, implement, and validate a remediation process for students with deficiencies.
  • Identify ongoing maintenance needs and facilitate new purchases of equipment.
  • Ensure labs and classrooms are organized and prepared for teaching sessions.
  • Participate in accreditation and admissions activities, as well as ongoing program evaluation.
  • Engage in service, community relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities each year.
  • Assist with other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director or Department Chair.

Requirements

  • Terminal Degree in healthcare disciplines such as physician assistant, pharmacy, nursing, or paramedic.
  • Minimum of a Master's degree is required.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline.
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession preferred; 2 years of clinical experience required.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
  • Current NCCPA certification for PAs is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, ExamSoft, and WebAdMIT.
