About the position

This position is within Womack Army Medical Center's Department of Family Medicine, Primary Care Service Line. We provide care to over 95,000 beneficiaries including active-duty military, service member families, retirees and their spouses. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Responsibilities

  • Make decisions concerning primary care needs of patients with physicians.
  • Prescribe for and treat a variety of diseases, disorders and injuries for assigned patients.
  • Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems of clients.
  • Write prescriptions, order the administration of medications, dispense medications and prescribe controlled substance in accordance with approved treatment protocols.
  • Evaluate the total health care needs of patients and develop plans to meet clients' needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a physician assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant.
  • Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes obtaining patient medical data to initiate or update medical record, prescribing medication to assigned patients, and determining appropriate medical treatment for assigned patients.
