About the position

The Physician Assistant (PA) in the General Medicine department plays a crucial role in promoting and maintaining health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician. This position involves assessing patient health, performing diagnostic tests, documenting care, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The PA is also responsible for patient education, continuity of care, and maintaining a safe working environment while contributing to the overall effectiveness of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying patient care issues and recommending options.
  • Assesses patient health through interviews and physical examinations.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results.
  • Documents patient care services in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as administering injections and managing wounds.
  • Instructs and counsels patients on therapeutic regimens and wellness.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans for continuity of care.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by adhering to health regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by following infection-control policies.
  • Engages in continuous self-improvement through training and education.
  • Responds efficiently to patient and provider staff needs and inquiries.
  • Ensures excellent customer service to all patients.
  • Works with operations managers to manage patient scheduling and flow.
  • Handles patient grievances according to policy.
  • Assists in developing and reviewing agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures HIPAA compliance by maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Attends mandatory meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Remains informed of legal and regulatory changes related to practice.
  • Maintains professional knowledge through workshops and publications.

Requirements

  • Valid California P.A. license, prefer certification.
  • Prefer a Master's degree.
  • Current valid CPR certification.
  • FQHC experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and motivation to complete tasks thoroughly.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative principles and procedures.
  • Computer knowledge preferred (e.g., NextGen, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish and familiarity with Hispanic culture.
  • Access to an automobile with a valid California driver's license and insurance.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Motivated to provide high-quality healthcare for underserved communities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to speak Spanish, preferred.
  • Certification in Health Promotion and Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of various health plans and programs (e.g., My Health LA, Medicare, Medi-Cal).
