About the position

The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Physician (Associate Chief of Staff - Ambulatory Care Service) to provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of Primary Care and other related programs across multiple facilities. This role involves implementing VA policies, enhancing patient care through innovative strategies, and ensuring high patient satisfaction. The position requires collaboration with various healthcare teams and a commitment to quality and safety in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of Primary Care and other programs at the Temple, Waco, Palestine, and Brownwood facilities.
  • Implement VA policies and procedures in Primary Care, ensuring compliance with performance measures and patient satisfaction goals.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Social Work, Mental Health, Pharmacy, and Dieticians to support Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT).
  • Establish a culture of quality and safety, monitoring and evaluating care quality in line with strategic goals.
  • Promote innovation and engage the workforce to enhance patient care delivery, including the expansion of telehealth services.
  • Review applications and credentials for medical staff membership, and conduct interviews for prospective physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Monitor clinical performance, drug utilization, and patient satisfaction, addressing any complaints or issues that arise.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting, and evaluation of primary care programs, ensuring alignment with facility goals.
  • Provide direct clinical care, either in person or via telehealth, dedicating 25% of time to clinical responsibilities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Primary Care leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys.
