About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff/Chief for Geriatric and Extended Care (ACOS/GEC) is a physician role responsible for delivering comprehensive geriatric medicine services to aging Veterans at the G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center. This position encompasses clinical responsibilities, administrative leadership, and program evaluation, ensuring high-quality care and compliance with medical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat medical and geriatric disorders using appropriate techniques.
  • Complete all GEC clinical charting and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain full clinical privileges as a member of the Medical Staff.
  • Supervise trainees conducting direct clinical care as appropriate.
  • Consult with medical center staff on various patient care issues.
  • Participate in program evaluation and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide leadership guidance and consultation to staff.
  • Directly supervise Geriatric services and associated staff.
  • Coordinate Geriatric and Hospice & Palliative Care services during critical occurrences.
  • Represent Geriatric and Hospice & Palliative Care services on decision-making committees.
  • Oversee program monitors and outcome measurements within programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
