About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine Service at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is a leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical and administrative operations across various medical specialties. This position involves direct management of multiple section chiefs and administrative staff, ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient resource utilization. The role also includes collaboration with academic partners and participation in local administrative and quality assurance activities, with some clinical duties expected.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management and oversight of clinical and administrative operations of medicine specialties including Neurology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary, and others.
  • Supervise multiple section chiefs and administrative staff, overseeing nearly 200 employees.
  • Collaborate with academic partners and other leaders to optimize resources in care delivery.
  • Participate in local administrative, management, and quality assurance assignments and meetings.
  • Perform clinical duties as required.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or a subspecialty.
  • Three to five years of professional supervisory and leadership experience, preferably in the VA system.
  • Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys.
  • Teaching experience.
