About the position

The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Physician (Associate Chief of Staff-Medicine Service) to lead clinical services and manage a diverse team of medical professionals. This leadership role involves overseeing various medical specialties, ensuring optimal resource utilization, and participating in administrative and quality assurance activities. The position requires a strong commitment to patient care and collaboration with academic partners, as well as some clinical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management and oversight of clinical and administrative operations of multiple medicine specialties.
  • Supervise multiple section chiefs and administrative staff, overseeing nearly 200 employees.
  • Collaborate with academic partners and other leaders to optimize resources in the care delivery model.
  • Participate in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments as necessary.
  • Engage in some clinical duties as required.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or a subspecialty.
  • Three to five years of professional supervisory and leadership experience, preferably in the VA system.
  • Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys, such as Joint Commission and OIG.
  • Teaching experience.
