About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care (ACOS/GEC) at the Durham VA Health Care System provides leadership in administrative, clinical, and programmatic aspects of geriatric and extended care programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring the achievement of program goals and serves as a key clinical resource for the Health System Director and Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for geriatric and extended care programs.
  • Manage the Geriatric Services, supervising various positions including physicians and nurse practitioners.
  • Develop and implement strategic and budget plans for the service in collaboration with the Director's Office.
  • Direct continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the service.
  • Plan and coordinate high-quality care through utilization of quality measurement tools.
  • Ensure compliance with standards set by accrediting and regulatory groups.
  • Encourage best practices in customer service and empower staff to resolve issues independently.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Board certification in Geriatrics or eligibility for certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
