About the position

The Chief of Staff (COS) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the management objectives and philosophies necessary for delivering high-quality health care to Veterans. The COS will actively participate in program management, resource allocation, and organizational effectiveness to ensure compliance with regulations and standards while promoting continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Support organizational efficiency and safety through oversight and program management of the medical center inter-facility transfers process.
  • Provide an environment that fosters patient care, educational activity, and administrative planning based on the integration and application of current knowledge.
  • Ensure facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of VHA and VA as a member of the Executive Leadership team.
  • Accomplish clinical program goals consistent with available resources and participate in the allocation of facility resources.
  • Monitor and promote compliance with VA regulations and professional standards.
  • Create an environment of system-oriented continuous quality improvement.
  • Promote effective communication and working relationships between the facility and its affiliates.
  • Encourage and support research conducted within a framework meeting scientific, ethical, and administrative standards.
  • Provide timely input into determining the proper scope of construction projects.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Must be Board Certified/Eligible in a clinical specialty.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 or more years of experience in VHA as Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, or Service Chief.
  • Leadership experience at a Level 1a Medical Center.
