About the position

The Chief of Staff (COS) at the Columbia VA Health Care System (CVAHCS) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical operations and ensuring high-quality service delivery to veterans. The COS collaborates with executive leadership to integrate clinical activities and maintain relationships with academic affiliates. This position requires strong executive leadership skills, a commitment to high reliability organization principles, and the ability to formulate comprehensive medical care programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical operations of the health care system and ensure efficient service delivery to veterans.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership in the formulation and supervision of clinical activities.
  • Maintain relationships with academic affiliates regarding training, research, and recruitment.
  • Direct strategic planning and resource allocation for CVAHCS.
  • Participate in executive leadership discussions and policy-making decisions.
  • Oversee credentialing and privileging as Chair of the Medical Executive Board.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Academic appointment with involvement in training health care trainees.
  • Board Certification in a clinical specialty.
