About the position

The Chief of Staff position is located at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, Albany, New York. The Stratton VA Medical Center, part of the VA Healthcare Network Upstate New York, provides extensive specialized medical services. The COS is responsible for leading and guiding the clinical staff in support of the VHA's core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence in the provision of these duties. The COS promotes standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff, ensuring compliance with credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide clinical staff in support of VHA's core values.
  • Promote standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff.
  • Ensure compliance with credentialing and privileging processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical practice and conduct peer reviews.
  • Ensure high quality, efficient, timely, and appropriate care for Veterans.
  • Complete performance evaluations of assigned service line managers and clinical service chiefs.
  • Formulate and recommend plans for a comprehensive program of medical care.
  • Develop requirements for staff, facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Appraise the effectiveness of medical programs in meeting patient care needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine.
  • Board Certification.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a leadership role in a Medical Center.
  • 10+ years of VA experience.
  • Experience in project and change management.
  • Innovation and project improvement/lean projects experience.
