About the position

The Chief of Primary Care at the Department of Veterans Affairs Augusta VA Health Care System is responsible for providing overall clinical, administrative, and programmatic leadership to Primary Care Services. This role ensures the achievement of the Medical Center's clinical, research, and educational goals while overseeing program development, expansion, and implementation. The Chief will engage in strategic planning, resource allocation, and the establishment of policies to enhance patient care and satisfaction among veterans and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall clinical, administrative, and programmatic leadership to Primary Care Services.
  • Ensure achievement of the Medical Center's clinical, research, and educational goals.
  • Oversee program development, expansion, and implementation.
  • Initiate plans for resource allocation to support program functioning and growth.
  • Develop leadership practices and team functioning at all levels.
  • Establish processes to develop, introduce, and maintain policies in response to clinical needs.
  • Oversee and respond to issues related to clinical outcomes and standards of care.
  • Function as the technical supervisor overseeing all programs aligned under the service.
  • Engage champions for key facility initiatives and identify coordinators to improve quality of care.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
