About the position

The Deputy Chief of Anesthesia at the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Texas VA Health Care System is responsible for providing comprehensive anesthetic care to veterans undergoing surgical and medical procedures. This role involves working under the Chief of Anesthesia to ensure compliance with VA and VHA directives, as well as The Joint Commission accreditation standards. The position includes assessment, consultation, and management of patients, as well as supervision and teaching of medical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and consultation for patients prior to anesthesia.
  • Provision of anesthesia care during surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Management of patients' life functions and vital organs during anesthesia.
  • Performance of various anesthesia techniques including general anesthesia and nerve blocks.
  • Monitoring homeostasis during the perioperative period.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of painful syndromes.
  • Clinical management of cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation.
  • Supervision and evaluation of medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia.
  • Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Administrative involvement in surgical services and medical education.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
