About the position

The Physician, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership to ensure the achievement of clinical, research, and education goals. This role involves hands-on clinical work, oversight of services, and guidance for residents and trainees, while acting as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and Chief of Staff. The position is a detail opportunity for an initial period not to exceed 120 days, with potential for extension based on facility needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the healthcare system.
  • Ensure achievement of clinical, research, and education goals.
  • Serve as a key clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and Chief of Staff.
  • Engage in hands-on clinical work and oversight of all service aspects.
  • Guide and train residents and other trainees.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team and service chiefs on strategic and business plans.
  • Facilitate improved patient outcomes and coordinate services.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5-10 years of VA leadership experience.
