About the position

The Deputy Chief of Staff - John Cochran Division (DCOS-JC) provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership to ensure the achievement of the Health Care System's clinical, research, and educational goals. This role involves significant collaboration with the Chief of Staff and participation in executive team activities and strategic planning. The DCOS is responsible for overseeing clinical program activities, compliance with policies, and coordination of health professions education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead physician in the medical center's Inpatient Flow Improvement, Systems Redesign, and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety initiatives.
  • Prepare for and implement the Cerner EMR system.
  • Coordinate the work of services under direct supervision and collaborate with services reporting to other executives.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the VA Saint Louis Health Care System goals.
  • Develop an interdisciplinary team focused on excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Manage human resources matters including promotions, selections, and training.
  • Address ethical issues impacting clients and staff.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • More than one year of management/leadership experience within a complex medical facility.
