About the position

The Physician (Emergency Medicine) position at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Prescott, AZ, involves diagnosing, treating, stabilizing, and managing patients in the Emergency Department. The role includes providing oversight to residents and mid-level providers, performing assessments, and coordinating patient care. The physician will also cover as a Hospitalist when necessary and must hold an unrestricted medical license along with BLS and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments/examinations on encounters with all presenting patients
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the ED evaluation
  • Provide Attending Physician oversight to residents, mid-level providers, and students
  • Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients
  • Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up
  • Discuss treatment plan with patient and/or family/caregiver
  • Perform medication reconciliation with all discharged patients
  • Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures
  • Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate
  • Support the safety, occupational health and fire protection program by applying approved standards, regulations, practices and work methods
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certified or eligible preferred
  • At least 2 years experience in Emergency Medicine or Hospitalist experience
