About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care (ACOS/GEC) at the Hines VA Hospital is responsible for overseeing the delivery of comprehensive geriatric services to aging veterans. This role involves leadership in clinical care, fiscal oversight, and collaboration with various medical and administrative teams to ensure high-quality patient-centered care. The ACOS/GEC will also engage in strategic planning, performance metrics development, and compliance with VA policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of geriatric services for aging Veterans.
  • Perform as a consultant to inpatient services and Emergency Medicine.
  • Conduct Geriatric Evaluation and Management and develop treatment plans.
  • Ensure clinical care meets or exceeds community standards and VHA benchmarks.
  • Oversee fiscal management of the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service.
  • Chair the Hines Hospital GEC Committee and participate in the Medical Executive Board.
  • Provide direct clinical and administrative oversight for medical students and residents.
  • Develop performance metrics to drive provider performance.
  • Engage in facility Quality Improvement activities and ensure compliance with credentialing processes.
  • Collaborate with academic affiliates and participate in local, VISN, and national committees.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • BLS and/or ACLS Certification as determined by MCM.
  • Board Certified in Geriatric Medicine.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 10 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Progressive administrative and supervisory experience of 3-5 years in Geriatrics.
