About the position
The Physician II at Garza Unit is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to inmate patients and employees injured during work-related activities. This role ensures timely access to healthcare services, directs health services activities, and supervises medical staff within the unit, all while adhering to established health policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete medical histories and physician examinations.
- Form clinical impressions based on findings and order diagnostic tests.
- Interpret results of laboratory tests and radiological examinations.
- Prescribe medications and render appropriate treatments.
- Inspect, complete, and analyze medical records; assign and review medical classifications.
- Complete admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Make rounds on patients admitted to infirmaries or regional medical facilities.
- Refer patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments.
- Serve in rotation with other physicians for after-hours and weekend patient care.
- Directly supervise all physicians and mid-level practitioners.
- Oversee and manage all operations of the unit's medical department.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders.
Requirements
- Current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) controlled substances registration.
