About the position

The Physician - Nephrologist position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves providing comprehensive nephrology care to both outpatient and inpatient populations. The role requires proficiency in various procedural skills, including hemodialysis and kidney biopsies, and involves collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care. The position also includes educational responsibilities and participation in quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of outpatient and inpatient nephrology care.
  • Proficient in procedural skills including hemodialysis, CRRT, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney biopsies.
  • Provide pre-kidney transplant and post-kidney transplant evaluations.
  • Share after-hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.
  • Provide consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care.
  • Communicate and document clearly with patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care.
  • Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Participate in the educational programs of the renal and medicine department, including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities and comply with agency, facility, and department regulations.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
  • Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments and perform other duties assigned by the ACOS, Medicine and Service Chief.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Completion of a Fellowship program in Hematology/Oncology with board certification or board eligible status.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
