About the position

The Physician in Occupational Medicine/Employee Health/Compensation & Pension will oversee clinical and programmatic efforts for delivering Employee and Occupational Health services, including Environment Registry/Burn Pit, Agent Orange, Persian Gulf, and Gulf War Exams, as well as Compensation and Pension evaluations at the CWBY Bay Pines VAMC and its community-based outpatient clinics. This role involves providing patient care, collaborating with clinical teams, and ensuring quality standards in occupational health services.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, coordination, and supervision of clinical and programmatic efforts for Employee/Occupational Health.
  • Serve as a provider for patients requiring care within the assigned clinic structure.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care.
  • Utilize and promote approved standards of care, procedures, methods, and safety protocols.
  • Act as supervising and/or collaborating physician to assigned physicians and NP/PAs.
  • Perform expanded single organ/system compensation and pension exams as indicated.
  • Request consultations and make recommendations for additional studies as appropriate.
  • Document findings in report format utilizing information technology per standards acceptable to VBA and DMA.
  • Provide leadership in the operations of Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension, including staff training and education.
  • Review, track, and evaluate quality improvement initiatives related to Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension.
  • Participate in medical center committees as assigned by the Chief of Primary Care and Chief of Staff.
  • Stay informed of the status of Occupational Health/Compensation & Pension programs in the VA and disseminate information to clinical staff.
  • Coordinate and participate in clinical research programs when appropriate.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certified in Occupational Health, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.
  • Significant clinical experience in occupational health or primary care.
  • Medical Review Officer certification.
  • Certified medical examiner for commercial motor vehicle drivers.
