About the position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. The position is for a Medical Officer in Fairfield, CA, with a salary range of $230,000 - $324,000 per year. The work schedule is full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The role involves assessment and care of patients with various medical problems, including hypertension, diabetes, and chronic pain, delivered through face-to-face, telehealth, or video visits. The position may require occasional travel to VISN medical centers or Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOC).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and perform history and physical examinations, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment of adult patients with medical illnesses.
  • Perform diagnostic or therapeutic joint aspiration/injection, soft tissue injection, routine women's health procedures, laceration repair, foreign body removal, abscess incision and drainage, diagnostic paracentesis, and wound debridement.
  • Care for patients via face-to-face, telemedicine, or VA approved video modalities.
  • Perform preliminary interpretation of ECG and radiographic studies.
  • Supervise residents, fellows, and others in training.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal or Family Medicine.
