The Physician (Primary Care) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves providing comprehensive primary care services to a panel of patients. Responsibilities

  • Provide primary care services for a panel of 1250 patients.
  • Perform medical examinations according to performance measure guidelines.
  • Dictate/type notes according to policy/procedure.
  • Screen outpatients to determine the need for further care.
  • Evaluate unscheduled patients under the physician's care.
  • Order diagnostic studies and carry out health promotion activities.
  • Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and scheduling special tests.
  • Adhere to operational policies and procedures for the primary care team.
  • Facilitate liaisons with other healthcare programs to coordinate services.
  • Comply with national and local performance measures and documentation procedures.
  • Attend and participate in administrative and informational meetings.
  • Work effectively with team members to facilitate care and complete medical forms.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Osteopathic Medicine.
  • 2 years of Primary Care experience.
