About the position

The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking a dedicated and experienced Primary Care Physician to join its Ambulatory Care Service in Kissimmee, FL. This role focuses on providing high-quality, comprehensive care to a diverse panel of patients, including gender-specific care for female veterans. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and team player, committed to the growth and development of the VA academic hospital program while adhering to quality care standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage chronic conditions and evaluate inter-current medical conditions.
  • Develop treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
  • Collaborate with a Patient Aligned Care Team to provide coordinated care to assigned patients.
  • Provide comprehensive gender-specific care for female veterans, including screenings and gynecological evaluations.
  • Perform disease prevention activities, including mental health screenings and health promotion.
  • Screen for and treat uncomplicated common mental health disorders, referring to specialists as needed.
  • Provide Buprenorphine treatment for Opioid Use Disorder as per DEA guidance.
  • Supervise or collaborate with primary care mid-level providers.
  • Attend primary care staff meetings and complete timely documentation of patient encounters.
  • Prescribe medications according to approved formulary and federal/state law.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Residency Training Program.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Experience in a primary care outpatient setting within the last 2 years.
