About the position

The primary care physician at the Iowa City VA Healthcare System is responsible for delivering comprehensive primary care to patients enrolled in their panels. This role involves managing both scheduled and unscheduled patients in an outpatient clinic setting, ensuring high-quality care aligned with the Veterans Health Administration's mission to honor America's veterans. The physician will work within a Whole Health System of care, focusing on creating personalized health plans for veterans and may also supervise mid-level providers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a panel of patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
  • Provide clinical oversight and review for mid-level providers as a supervising or collaborating physician.
  • Participate in special projects and committees as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and VHA policies regarding leave and attendance.
  • Complete administrative work in a timely manner and address clinical reminders appropriately.
  • Act as a surrogate for colleagues' patients during their absence.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
