About the position

The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff (DACOS) of Diagnostic Imaging Service (DIS) is a full-time physician role responsible for both clinical and administrative functions within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The DACOS DIS will oversee the operations of DIS, ensuring quality radiology care for Veterans, managing budgets, human resources, and strategic planning, while also providing direct medical care in diagnostic and therapeutic imaging. This position requires collaboration with other leaders and staff to achieve the service's strategic goals and maintain compliance with accrediting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall management of the Diagnostic Imaging Service (DIS).
  • Provide leadership and accountability for all aspects of the service, ensuring alignment with the mission and values of the VA.
  • Manage day-to-day administrative activities of DIS, including budget and fiscal management.
  • Plan, implement, and manage Performance Improvement and Quality Management programs within DIS.
  • Formulate and implement policies, procedures, and standards for DIS.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental functions and chair relevant meetings.
  • Complete performance appraisals and approve leave for DIS practitioners.
  • Participate in national collaborative activities and meetings as delegated by the ACOS DIS.
  • Assess, consult, and treat patients with radiology needs in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging tests and provide recommendations for patient management.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Radiology or Nuclear Medicine is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support is required.

  • Experience in managing a diagnostic imaging service.
  • Fellowship training in a relevant specialty.
