About the position

The Staff Physician for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) will provide comprehensive medical care to patients in various settings, including inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with spinal cord injuries, participating in on-call rotations, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care. The physician will also assist in administrative duties, including reviewing consults and managing service line performance measures.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultative services to patients in need of SCI care.
  • Participate in the physician on-call rotation.
  • Assist the Service Chief in reviewing interfacility consults directed to the SCI service.
  • Provide consultative services to spoke site providers as needed.
  • Review records of new injuries referred to the SCI center to determine appropriateness for services.
  • Ensure the service line meets all SCI performance measures or health systems indicators.
  • Investigate issues within inpatient/outpatient services and formulate action plans to resolve them.
  • Supervise and evaluate midlevel providers assigned to the service.
  • Attend meetings and represent the SCI Service Chief as needed.
  • Function as the acting SCI Service Chief in their absence.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Certification or Board Eligibility in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is required; certification in SCI Medicine is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in the subspecialty of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine is desirable.
