About the position

The Primary Care Physician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the performance and operations of a team of healthcare providers, including Physician Assistants (PAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Medical Doctors (MDs) within the Veterans Health Administration. This role involves ensuring compliance with VA goals and performance measures, managing clinic operations, and providing leadership to support staff. The supervisor will also engage in direct patient care, administrative tasks, and coordination of care for assigned patients.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise PAs, NPs, and MDs to ensure achievement of VA goals and performance measures.
  • Manage coverage schedules and complete mid/annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned by TVHS.
  • Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health problems for scheduled and unscheduled patients in a clinic setting.
  • Perform histories and physical exams, ensuring appropriate documentation of patient encounters.
  • Prescribe medications and order routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests.
  • Communicate test results to patients and respond to inquiries using secure messaging.
  • Provide education to patients and families as necessary and screen patients for hospitalization needs.
  • Function as the managing physician for nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as assigned.
  • Maximize the use of virtual care modalities to enhance access to care.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of Primary Care/Ambulatory Care experience.
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
