About the position

The Urologist position at the Veterans Health Administration in Lebanon, PA, involves providing comprehensive urological care to patients within the VA system. The role includes performing surgical and medical treatments, conducting consultations, and ensuring proper documentation in electronic medical records. The Urologist will work collaboratively with healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care, focusing on the reproductive and genitourinary systems.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat (surgically or medically) and provide consultation for illnesses and injuries of the reproductive and genitourinary system.
  • Provide appropriate documentation in the electronic record.
  • Inform patients about risks, benefits, and alternative treatments, securing informed consent before invasive procedures.
  • Evaluate patients' physical status, lab values, and vital signs prior to surgery, documenting appropriately.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations and pre-operative evaluations.
  • Participate in hospital committees and in-service programs, acquiring required CME credits.
  • Work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Adhere to the Medical Staff Bylaws and comply with information security policies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Perform minor and major surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to best practices and national standards.
  • Conduct regular postoperative follow-ups, patient teaching, and timely documentation of discharge orders.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Completion of residency training in Urology approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible preferred.
  • Robotically trained with current robotic privileges preferred.
