About The Position

Rural regional hospital is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified (BE/BC) part-time Urologist to join our team in Central Eastern Maine, located on the New Brunswick border. This position is crucial as it provides a highly valued service to the community. The current Urologist typically schedules procedures during the first week of their visit and returns the following week to ensure that everything has gone well and that the patient has recovered. The role offers flexibility, allowing you to provide the hospital with your preferred schedule for the 26 weeks you will work each year. The current provider has been known to come in for two to three weeks each month, with the option to take an entire month off as needed. You will be taking over a patient panel from a retiring physician, ensuring continuity of care for our patients. As the largest employer in the area with 400 employees, our hospital is located in Aroostook County, which is known for its low property prices and low crime rate. The hospital is situated 90 minutes from Bangor and just over three hours from Portland, making it accessible while still offering a rural lifestyle. This position is ideal for a locum who desires to be a hospital employee and return to the same facility for all assignments, or for a Urologist who is approaching retirement and prefers to avoid complex cases while still remaining active in their profession. The procedures you will be performing include biopsies, cystoscopy with anesthesia or retrograde, local cystoscopies, holmium laser lithotripsy, stent removal, vasectomy, urolift, urethral dilation, transrectal ultrasounds, and transurethral procedures, among others. The community of Houlton, located in Maine's Aroostook County, is set among some of the most scenic and rugged landscapes in the state. Known for its variety of annual fairs and festivals, Houlton attracts visitors from all over the region. Its border location allows for easy day-trips into Canada. During the summer months, the area is bustling with activities, many of which are family-friendly. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, or ATV riding on the Southern Bangor and Aroostook Trail, a 37-mile multi-use trail that winds through small towns. The community also hosts events such as the Black Fly Brewfest in May and the Houlton Agricultural Fair over the 4th of July weekend, featuring concerts and amusement park rides. For those who enjoy water activities, the annual Meduxnekeag River Canoe Race has been a local tradition for over 35 years, drawing paddlers to a scenic stretch of the river.
