About the position

Austin Industrial is seeking a Pipefitter Helper Level 2 to join our team in Houston, TX. This position is essential for laying out, assembling, installing, and maintaining pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. The successful candidate will work with various systems including steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. The role requires a hands-on approach to ensure that all pipe systems are installed and maintained according to specifications, ensuring optimal safety and efficiency in operations. The Pipefitter Helper Level 2 will be responsible for cutting, threading, and hammering pipes to specifications using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders. The role involves attaching pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures, measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading, and planning pipe system layouts. The candidate will select appropriate pipe sizes and types, modify and maintain pipe systems, and install automatic controls to regulate these systems. Additionally, the helper will be expected to turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids, inspect work sites for obstructions, and operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded areas. This position requires a proactive individual who can work effectively in a team environment and is willing to take on additional duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pipefitting and be able to demonstrate their skills in a practical setting. This is a full-time position with a start date in April 2024, working 7 days a week for 12 hours each day, with no per diem offered.

Responsibilities

  • Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools.
  • Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
  • Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Inspect work sites for obstructions and to ensure that holes will not cause structural weakness.
  • Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors.
  • Dip nonferrous piping materials in a mixture of molten tin and lead to obtain a coating that prevents erosion or galvanic and electrolytic action.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Journeyman level experience in pipefitting.
  • NCCER Certification required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • TWIC Card preferred.
