About the position
The Pipefitter position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves performing the duties of a journeyman Pipefitter within the Indiana Health Care System. The role is critical in maintaining and repairing high-pressure piping systems and equipment, ensuring the functionality of essential utilities in a healthcare environment. The incumbent will work with various systems, including steam heating and hydraulic systems, and must be knowledgeable about relevant codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
- Tests systems and equipment for proper operation, circulation, flow, pressure, and leak-free joints.
- Traces and troubleshoots pipe systems and equipment to locate and repair leaks and trouble spots.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections of systems and equipment.
- Works from blueprints and uses judgment to plan, lay out, route, and install/repair various piping systems.
- Installs and maintains equipment such as meters, valves, compressors, and pumps.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
- Evidence of training or experience in pipefitting or related work is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical guides.

- Familiarity with the International Plumbing Code and National Fire Protection Association standards.
