About the position

The Pipefitter position at Century Contractors, Inc. involves a variety of tasks related to the layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping systems and related equipment. The primary focus is on systems used for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing. The role requires a thorough understanding of job plans and specifications to select the appropriate type and size of pipe and materials. Pipefitters must inspect work sites to identify any obstructions and plan the sequence of installation to ensure efficiency and safety while coordinating with other construction workers. In this role, you will be responsible for cutting pipes using various tools such as hacksaws, pipe cutters, and cutting torches. You will also thread pipes, bend them as necessary, and assemble a variety of metal and non-metal pipes and fittings. Joining piping will involve techniques such as threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints. Additionally, securing pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers is a critical function of the job. Testing piping systems for leaks is essential, requiring the ability to increase pressure in pipes and monitor gauges for any signs of leakage. The working conditions for this position can vary significantly, as you may find yourself in offices, shops, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties. Exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions is common. The role demands physical strength and stamina, as you will need to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty pounds, stand for long periods, and work in confined spaces or elevated positions.
