About the position

The Piping and Support Engineer position at Atkins Nuclear Secured LLC is a remote role based out of the Oak Ridge, TN office. The engineer will be responsible for performing engineering work in accordance with quality assurance programs and applicable codes and standards. This role involves the design and analysis of piping and support systems for the BWRX300 Nuclear Reactor, requiring collaboration with clients and stakeholders, as well as technical guidance to junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work following QA programs and applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and other design disciplines.
  • Involve in the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design and analysis of piping and support systems.
  • Prepare engineering computations and analyses using applicable software.
  • Model complex piping and support arrangements using finite element techniques.
  • Perform pipe stress evaluations in accordance with ASME codes.
  • Conduct thermal, fatigue, seismic, and other analyses as per ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements.
  • Review technical documents and drawings, including General Arrangement and P&ID.
  • Support preparation of registration packages for pressure boundary modifications.
  • Provide technical guidance to Designers/Drafters and junior staff.
  • Perform site visits and field walk-downs as required.
  • Support field construction and execution activities.
  • Provide prompt engineering resolutions on critical analysis matters.
  • Complete assigned scopes within budget and schedule.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Civil & Structure from an accredited university or equivalent.
  • Registered as an Engineer-In-Training or eligible for Professional Engineer registration in the U.S.
  • 2-5 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and piping systems; knowledge of nuclear systems is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CSA and ASME standards related to plant components and reactor systems is preferred.
  • Design engineering experience in nuclear piping systems is preferable.
  • Experience in Stress Analysis using relevant software is an asset.
  • Must be able to apply technical principles to resolve engineering issues.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills are required.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Site experience in construction or commissioning of plant mechanical systems is an asset.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of nuclear systems would be an asset.
  • Experience in Stress Analysis using PipeStress, AutoPipe, MathCAD, or similar software is an asset.
  • Qualified or eligible for ASME Appendix XXIII is an asset.
