About the position

The PIT RF Engineer for Project Kuiper is responsible for developing electronic hardware test setups in both the Payload Integration and Test lab and field environments. This hands-on role requires collaboration with engineering teams to design and procure test equipment for Kuiper prototype payload hardware, ensuring successful development cycles of RF, communications, and space hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Build bench-top and rack-mounted test setups from schematics and diagrams.
  • Modify custom test harnesses, breadboards, and test fixtures for payload hardware tests.
  • Perform operational tests, system check-outs, and fault isolation on test setups and equipment.
  • Assist in developing lab processes, equipment scheduling, and work tracking.
  • Implement and optimize RF lab setups with antennas and measurement equipment.
  • Configure test equipment for automated operation, including satellite link emulators and spectrum analyzers.
  • Work with engineering teams to specify and procure capital equipment for program development.
  • Meet with suppliers to select enabling lab technologies.
  • Maintain equipment and service records, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Establish lab layouts and facility utility requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or 2+ years of RF, satellite, aerospace, or related industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in RF design and/or verification with launched products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with on-orbit payload verification or satellite testing.
  • Familiarity with RF standards in cellular (4G/5G), OFDM/WiMAX, 802.11ad, microwave backhaul, DVB-S2 / DVB-C, or similar broadband wireless standards.
  • Knowledge of communications theory and RF systems: OFDM, MIMO, free-space optics, polarization, spread spectrum, etc.
  • Understanding of low-Earth-orbit satellite communications challenges.
