About the position

The substitute teacher at Faith Bible Christian School is responsible for maintaining a consistent learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. This role emphasizes modeling Christ-like character, fostering academic excellence, and integrating a Biblical worldview into the educational experience. The substitute teacher will support the school's mission by ensuring that students are encouraged to think critically and Biblically, while also helping them develop skills necessary for their future success.

Responsibilities

  • Model and uphold the school's mission of developing Christ-like character and fostering academic excellence.
  • Establish and enforce rules of behavior for students in the classroom.
  • Prepare lessons, units, and projects to meet learning objectives.
  • Communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students.
  • Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and career paths.
  • Create, assign, and grade various assessments for students, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects.
  • Work with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention.
  • Track and evaluate student academic progress.
  • Lead parent-teacher meetings.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Manage student behavior and create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress.
  • Help students improve study methods and habits.
  • Administer tests to evaluate students' progress.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal educational guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organized and committed to the role.
  • Creative and energetic with strong moral values and discipline.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and adapt to students' learning needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with students of all ages.
  • Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate educational psychology and learning strategies.
