About the position

The Placement and Recruitment Specialist at Hartford Public Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of Enrollment and School Choice. This position is responsible for the timely recruitment, placement, and registration of families participating in the Hartford Public Schools Choice Lottery and RSCO Magnet Lottery. The specialist assists families with the registration process, school selection applications, and provides customer service in school placement and registration matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist families with the online registration process and collect required registration paperwork.
  • Review registration forms submitted online and follow up with families regarding missing documents.
  • Receive and review all forms and requests for student placement.
  • Work directly with families to complete Choice applications and answer questions.
  • Check students in PowerSchool for needed placement information.
  • Conduct research and investigations to ensure appropriate transfer or new placement.
  • Communicate with various departments such as Special Education and Welcome Center as needed.
  • Generate correspondence to parents/guardians regarding school placement.
  • Maintain an accurate database and files of all new placements or transfers.
  • Provide support to the Choice Program Managers and Coordinators.
  • Attend and assist at Choice events, including information sessions and fairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Associate's Degree with 5 years' experience in customer service fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with office staff and administrators.
  • Ability to work with parents and other customers to problem solve matters.
  • Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use technology to maintain a variety of records.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of District Policy and Procedures.
  • Proficient with computers utilizing Microsoft Products or other district databases such as Power School.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to be flexible and work an extended day to meet the goals of the Office of Enrollment and School Choice.
