About the position

The Placement Specialist at ICF will support the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in achieving its mission goals by providing assistance in application reviews, service referrals, and placement support for unaccompanied children (UC). This role requires a thorough understanding of ORR policies and practices, and involves communication with various stakeholders to ensure effective placements and transfers. The position is fully remote, hybrid, or onsite, and includes shift work to accommodate 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support for reviewing and processing applications for placement and services.
  • Assisting in the review of referrals for additional services and identifying needs for existing recipients.
  • Coordinating access to services and drafting technical assistance for federal staff.
  • Tracking case information including placements, services received, and outcomes.
  • Maintaining familiarity with ORR database and technology systems.
  • Developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Creating and updating training curriculum for onboarding new staff.
  • Communicating with DHS field personnel regarding placement of minors.
  • Identifying sensitive cases needing management attention.
  • Supporting transfer and movement of unaccompanied children with internal stakeholders.
  • Answering initial placement calls and inquiries from various agencies.
  • Gathering information from regions, districts, and facilities.
  • Recording significant incidents and reporting them to management.
  • Producing reports on capacity, referrals, and placements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, business, social services, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with unaccompanied children or relevant experience with immigrating families.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in social work, public administration, business, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of ORR mission and activities.
  • Experience working for a refugee program.
